“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Ephesians 6:10 NKJVYou deserve to feel strong. In your body. In your sport. In your life.
Built for motivated adults and youth athletes with full schedules. Every session is one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who goes straight at the root of the problem — so you keep training, keep performing, and stop working around the pain.
I help you perform
and recover
at your best.
I'm Dr. Alex White — a Doctor of Physical Therapy and board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, based in Billings, Montana and practicing inside Beartooth Performance. I'm also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, and a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Performance Coach, with certifications in dry needling and spinal manipulation.
More
I grew up in sport and training, and was fortunate enough to compete as a student athlete at the University of Montana — a thrower on the track team in the discus, hammer, and shot put. I earned my degree there in 2014, stayed on for physical therapy school, and graduated with my doctorate from Montana in 2017.
I've spent my entire career in outpatient physical therapy, and built my expertise in sports medicine along the way — working with athletes of every age and sport, and sharpening the craft through continuing education year after year.
I built Be Strong for the person who wants to work with an expert from anywhere and is willing to do the work. My job is to find what's actually driving the problem, figure out what your body can tolerate today, then systematically raise that ceiling until the thing you love doing is back on the table.
Away from the clinic, I'm married to my amazing wife, Emily, and we have a daughter. My downtime goes to training, getting outside, and time with family.
Built for people who
want the real answer.
You're already willing to do the work.
You just want it pointed at the right thing.
Your schedule is already full.
Work, family, practice, and training are all on the calendar before you get hurt. You need care that earns its place on it — a real evaluation up front, a plan you can run on your own, and progress you can actually feel between visits. In person in Billings, or virtually from wherever your week takes you.
You want the root cause, not the symptom.
The spot that hurts is often not the spot that caused it. I assess how you move, what you can load, and where your capacity actually runs out — then treat that. You leave understanding what's driving the problem and why, not just a list of things to stretch.
You'd rather keep training.
Shutting it all down isn't the plan. In almost every case there's something you can still train hard while we fix what's irritated. We adjust the dose, not the ambition — and you come out the other side stronger and more resilient than when this started.
How we build a stronger,
more resilient you.
Three steps, and none of them wasted: find what's actually driving it, rebuild the capacity that's missing, then prove it under the real demands of your sport or your life. The goal isn't just getting you out of pain — it's leaving you harder to break than when you walked in.
Free Consult Call
A no-pressure conversation about what's going on, what you're chasing, and whether I'm the right person for it. If I'm not, I'll tell you who is.
Your Personal Evaluation
A real assessment — movement, strength, load tolerance, and history — until we find the actual driver, not just the sore spot. You leave with a working diagnosis, a plan built for you, and treatment started the same day.
Rebuild & Return
Progressive loading that bridges the gap between rehab and performance, with clear criteria for what "ready" actually means — so you go back better than you left.
Care built
around you.
Out-of-network by design, so your visit takes exactly as long as your case needs. In person inside Beartooth Performance in Billings, or virtually when your schedule or your zip code calls for it.
Concussion Recovery
Your athlete took a hit and hasn't been right since — headaches that build through the day, dizziness, trouble reading or focusing in class, or just "off." That is treatable, and waiting it out is usually the wrong move. A concussion isn't one injury with one fix: it can affect balance, vision, the neck, or how much exertion the brain will tolerate, and each of those is treated differently. I find out which systems are actually involved and treat those directly.
School comes before sport. From there we build back through staged return-to-sport criteria, not a guess and not a feeling — because being symptom-free at rest is not the same as being ready for contact.

Frequently Asked Questions.
I'm not an athlete. Is this still for me?
Yes. "Athlete" here means anyone who wants their body to do something specific — hike with your kids, lift on Saturdays, get through a shift without your back locking up. The approach is the same: build capacity, respect irritability, and get you back to the thing you actually care about.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. Montana is a direct access state, which means you can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without a physician referral. If your case needs imaging or a specialist, I'll tell you and help coordinate it.
What actually happens in the first visit?
You start treatment the same day — not at some future appointment. We go through your history and goals, run a real movement and strength assessment, and then get to work: hands-on treatment, your first interventions, and a plan you understand. You walk out having already begun your recovery, with something specific to do before I see you again.
My athlete had a concussion. When should we come in?
Sooner than most families expect. The old advice — a dark room and total rest until symptoms disappear — is out of date, and sitting still too long can actually stretch recovery out. Current best practice is a short period of relative rest, then carefully dosed activity guided by what your athlete can tolerate. Most young athletes recover within about a month, and the ones who start guided care early tend to get there faster. I'll assess which systems the concussion actually affected, treat those specifically, get school and screens back on track first, then progress through return-to-sport stages with clear criteria at each step. Anything that looks like an emergency should go to the ER first — I pick it up from there.
Do you take insurance?
Be Strong is an out-of-network practice. That's what makes true one-on-one care possible — the whole visit is yours, and the plan is built around your case rather than a visit count. I accept HSA payment, and in most cases I can provide the documentation you'd need to seek reimbursement through your insurer. I'm happy to walk through the numbers on your free consult call.
How does virtual physical therapy work?
We meet by video for the assessment, I build you a written program with demonstration videos, and you have direct access to me between sessions for questions and adjustments. It's a strong fit if your schedule is already full — you get expert guidance without building travel time to and from appointments into your week. It also works especially well for post-op progressions, return-to-sport programming, and athletes traveling for tournaments.
I don't live in Montana. Can you still treat me?
In most cases, yes. Physical therapy licensure follows the patient, not the provider — so I have to hold a license or privilege in the state you're sitting in. Montana is a member of the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact, which lets me practice in 37 member states without licensing separately in each one. Tell me where you're located on the consult call and I'll confirm before we start. If your state isn't covered, I can still build and coach your strength and performance programming.
How long will this take?
It depends on the injury and the goal, and I'll give you an honest estimate on the consult call rather than a package you have to buy blind. What I won't do is prescribe months of care up front. Your needs will change as you progress, and the plan should change with them — so I never ask anyone to commit to more than four weeks at a time. We reassess, adjust, and decide the next block together.
